John H. Stites
John Harrison Stites, Sr. passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 9:20 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center. John was born in Springfield, IL on March 27, 1940 to Earl F. Stites, Sr. and Helen M. (Crabtree) Stites. He married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Jo Coleman on August 3, 1958. His father and sister, Alice L. Tatro, preceded him in death.
John is survived by his wife, Jackie; mother, Helen of Springfield; sons, John H. (Nancy) Stites, Jr. of Rochester, IL and James P. (Julie) Stites of Springfield; a daughter, Kim M. (Dan) Housley of Rochester, IL.; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Claudia) Stites, Lindsey (fiancée: Andrew Ealey) Stites, Danielle Stites, Zachary Stites, Calin, Taylor, Sela and Seth Cronin; one great granddaughter, Ryleigh Pygott, as well as an expected great grandson; one brother, Earl Jr. (Jean) Stites; one brother-in-law, Bill Tatro and many beloved nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Feitshans high school in 1958. He was an avid sportsman in hunting and fishing. John was a member of the Elm City and Capital City Beagle Clubs and the Springfield Bass Club. John’s career spanned over 46 years in the Production Department of the State Journal Register, retiring in 2002. He attended Knox Presbyterian Church. Both he and his wife loved traveling during their retirement. John was gifted with a unique sense of humor and always shared many wonderful stories. John dearly loved all his family and many, many friends. He felt the LORD had truly blessed his life.
