John E. Sullivan
John E. Sullivan, 87, of Springfield, died at 7:52 am, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born August 6, 1927 in Menard County, to Edward J. and Addie Sara Ritterbush Sullivan. He married Martha “Marty” Vose on August 31, 1957 and she preceded him in death on February 22, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Lois Wood.
Survived by two sons; Michael E. (Lisa C.) Sullivan of Springfield and Stephen H. (fiancée Martha Walsh) Sullivan of Cedar Park, TX; two grandsons; Stephen (Kristen) Sullivan, Jr and Ryan Sullivan both of TX; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
John worked as a tile, marble and terrazzo setter. He was also a farmer. He was a U.S. Navy Seabees Veteran of both World War II and Korea. He received the Victory Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal. He was a life member of Carpenters Local 16, loved farming and spending time with his grandsons.
Visitation: 10-12 pm, Friday, January 16, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Friday, January 16, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg where Military Honors will be conducted.
