John David Cavanaugh
John David Cavanaugh of Springfield, died Monday, December 22, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. John was born Jay Dee Mowry on February 9, 1933 in Decatur, IL to Harold and Helen Hatfield Mowry. He was later adopted by his Aunt Vera and Leo Cavanaugh. John married Joanne Chamberlain and had two daughters and later married Lula “Lu” Reynolds on August 15, 1964.
He is survived by his wife, Lu Cavanaugh; two daughters, Kathy Cavanaugh of Springfield and Karen (Lee) Beiermann of Lorton, VA; one grandson, Scott (Leah) Beiermann of Hayes, VA, three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Harlene Shipp of Schaumburg and Marianne (Don) Rowe of St. George, UT and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gene and Charles Mowry and one sister, Betty Williams.
John was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was an avid golfer and loved singing gospel music. He was a resident of Springfield since 1970 and was employed as an independent insurance agent.
Memorial Gathering:10:-11 am Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Calvary Temple Christian Center
Memorial Service: 11 am, Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Calvary Temple Christian Center with Reverend Mark Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Calvary Temple Christian Center.
