John A. Jack Faucon
SPRINGFIELD – Retired Sgt. Maj. John A. Jack Faucon, 87, of Springfield died at 3:18 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Heritage Manor.
He was born July 7, 1921, in Springfield, the son of Alfonso and Valentine Deprez Faucon.
He married Dorothy Louise Iversen on Sept. 25, 1943; she preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 1993.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Greg Faucon; a sister; and a brother.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandy Murphy of Springfield; three grandchildren, Nicholas J. (wife, Misti R.) Murphy Jr. of Springfield, Monica Murphy-Hayes of Springfield and Stephanie (husband, Mike) Stephenson of Carterville; five great-grandchildren; lifelong friend, Pat Price; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He retired in 1981 as a sergeant major from the Illinois National Guard.
He served in the Marines during World War II. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 32, VFW Post 755, Collier-Harrison detachment of the Marine Corps League and the Navy Club of Sangamon Ship 32. He was a devoted and active member of the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes and bowling.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday , Dec. 10, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
