Joseph “Joe” L. Bringuet 93, of Springfield, passed away at 4:15 am, Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Concordia Lutheran Village. He was born on October 31, 1929 in Chicago, to Joseph F. and Lucille Keel Bringuet. He married Louise Alvina Horn on June 17, 1950 and she preceded him in death on April 20, 2016.
Joe is survived by two children, Jo Ellen (Dan) Bringuet Higgins of Springfield and Dennis (Cathy) Bringuet of Springfield; four grandchildren Amy (Gary) Boatman Robbins and Cory (Melissa) Boatman; Todd (Mitzie) Bringuet and Scott (Fiance, Jenny Krell) Bringuet; one step-granddaughter, Tiffany (John) Higgins Stevens; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and many cousins.
Raised in Auburn Illinois, Joe was an athlete in track, basketball, and football. A veteran of the United States Navy, Joe served his country as a submarine diesel mechanic from 1948-1950. Upon returning from duty, Joe worked for his father-in-law, Frank Horn, at Ace Sign Co. where he later became a second-generation co-owner with his wife Louise. Their impact on the community and their shared legacy carries on through the family business.
He was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church where he was active in the Men’s Club; Lake Press Club, for which he served as president; Rotary Club and WSA World Sign Association.
Visitation: 4-7 pm Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home — Springfield.
Additional Visitation: 10-11am, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Laurel United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service: 11am, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Laurel United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Kent Lolling officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
