Joe Austin Dunbar
Joe Austin Dunbar, 90, of Springfield, IL died , August 15, 2012 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born February 28, 1922 in Newton, Iowa to Dick and Frances Yahrm Dunbar. He married Edna Gramlich on October 14, 1967 and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Patti Jo (Tom) Sloman of Morrisonville; two sons Rick (Sue) Dunbar and Michael Austin (Linda) Dunbar both of Springfield; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren, one sister, June Kirsch of Ventura, California and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including his special nieces, Connie Dishon.
His parents; one daughter, Pamela Dunbar Deal and two sisters, Edna Orten and Donna Renzulli preceded him in death.
Joe was a US Air Force Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church where he was an usher for many years. He was a Charger member of ANSAR Capitol City Shrine Club, a member of Ansar Legion of Honor Knight Templer of St. Aldermar, Commandry #47; Disabled American Veterans; Liberator Club; Ansar Director Staff, Kachina Klub, American Legion Post #32 and Elks Springfield Lodge #158.
He went into the service June 22, 1942 and graduated 2nd Lt. Army Air Corp on December 23 1944, was released from the Army Air Corp Reserve in 1953 as First Lt. He was a pilot on a B-25, The Billy Mitchell; was airplane commander on B-24, The Liberator; was pilot on B-29, The Superfort and was in that position at the end of the war.
In July 1976 he became Founder and President of Triad Industrial Supply Corporation until his retirement in 1988.

Memorial Service: 1:00 pm, Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Peter Harman and Sister Mary Jean Trager officiating.
