Joan Reardon-Mahoney, 77, of Springfield, died peacefully at 5:35 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born August 10, 1936 in Chicago to Frank and Helen Kiener Coburn.
Her parents; first husband, Timothy J. Reardon and a sister, Mary Lou LaPorte preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Mahoney of Springfield; one daughter, Katie Mary Reardon of Crown Point, IN; three sons, Thomas Reardon of Jacksonville, IL, Michael (Amy) Reardon of Rochester, IL and Brian (Lori) Reardon of Springfield; one step son, Charles L. (Elizabeth) Mahoney of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren, Emily, Calyn, Jane and Caroline; one step grandson, Caleb; one niece and two nephews.
Joan was a Social Worker at St. John’s Hospital-Pastoral Care, Springfield Pregnancy Care Center and for several independent adoption placement agencies. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish where she was very active. She was also a member of Island Bay Yacht Club, she enjoyed reading and was a member of many book clubs. She received the 2009 Sangamon County Medical Society Alliance Humanitarian Award. Joan was a lifelong friend to dogs, adopting many from shelters.
Visitation: 4 -7 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Northern Michigan.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Parish or Springfield Pregnancy Care Center.
