Joan Buck of Springfield, IL, 90 years old, passed away March 7th at home surrounded by her family. She was born January 23rd, 1926 in Mt. Sterling, IL to Louis & Corrine Markert.
Joan graduated from St Mary’s Academy in 1943. She then came to Springfield & worked for the State of Illinois for a total of 36 years. She married Louis Buck at St Mary’s Church in Mt. Sterling, Illinois in 1951. During WWII Joan volunteered as a nurse’s aide at St John’s Hospital. After her retirement, she spent many hours volunteering as a Samaritan for Hospice at St John’s Hospital, Cathedral Grade School, University of Illinois, & the St John’s Breadline.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Buck of Flower Mound, TX, Robert Buck (Nancy) of Springfield; two daughters, Trish Moore (Fiancé Rodney Meyer) of Farmington, MO and Jean Bayles (Brad) of Springfield; four grandsons, Jimmy, Jake, Josh Moore of Farmington, MO and Patrick Heinen of Rochester, IL. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis; a brother, Louis Markert Jr., and her sister, Rosemary Smith.
Her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews were the love of her life! Many thanks to Anne Barnett, Jane Martin, and Mary Kay Flessner for years of love and kindness.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass: 1 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Seth Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
