Jerry L. Coleman
Jerry L. Coleman, 73 of Chatham, died at 9:58 am, Friday, August 14, 2015 at his home. He was born February 23, 1942 in Springfield to Bernard F. and Doris M. Wells Coleman. He married Kathleen A. Elwell on April 21, 1990 and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Julie Beetle of Springfield, Kelly (Michael) LoPiccolo of Lexington, KY and Kimberly (Geoff) Gross of Tampa, FL; one step daughter, Darla Ann (Rick) Richno of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Alexis (Gilbert) Dumire, Sara Boggs, Faith, Vincent and Sophia LoPiccolo, Alli and Austin Gross and Ryan and Dylan Richno; three great grandchildren, Levi, Brooke and Kayzlynn; three sisters, Kathy (Chuck) Kelly of Colorado Springs, CO, Libby (Foster) Bee of Springfield and Carol Bartlett of Indiana; one brother, Rich (Sandy) Coleman of Sherman and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his parents; one brother, Bob Coleman; infant brother, George Coleman and granddaughter, Karleigh Gross.
Jerry has been a resident of Chatham since 1975. He is a United States Air Force Veteran serving during 1959-1963 and then enlisted in the the Air National Guard for 20 years. He retired after 16 years of service from the Village of Jerome Street Department and had previously worked for 20 years at Pillsbury Mills as a Machine Operator.
Jerry is a member of 1st United Methodist Church, Past President – Springfield Chapter Illinois Pilots Association, past member of Federation of Grain Millers, President of the Slip and Skid Flyers Club, Member of Experimental Aircraft Association and 1998 State Director of Illinois Pilots Association.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 8:30 am, Monday, August 17, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Safe Haven Hospice or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
