SPRINGFIELD – Jerry Cole, 70, of Springfield, formerly of Macon, died Saturday at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.
Born in Macon on October 6, 1938, the son of Clarence and Florence Wells Cole, he married Janet Daggett on December 12, 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence Eugene; and sister, Christine Benson.
Jerry graduated from Macon High School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1976. He worked for Mirex and ICON Solutions until his retirement in 2007.
Jerry was an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, and a member of American Legion Post 32 and Navy Fleet Reserve.
He is survived by wife, Janet; son, Wes (wife Tonya) of Warrensburg, MO; daughter, Tonya (husband Steve) Sandstrom of Springfield; three granddaughters; and one great- granddaughter.
Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church, 321 S. 7th St. in Springfield from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2009. A memorial service with Reverend Doctor Clifford Hayes will be held at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with burial at Camp Butler Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted following the service. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
