Jennie Merlene Stengele

Jennie Merlene Stengele, 75, of Springfield, died at 10:02 pm, Thursday, August 16, 2012 at her home. She was born February 3, 1937 in Wayne County, Kentucky to Joseph D. and Gertrude Sheppard Wright. She married Rexford L. Stengele on December 31, 1970 and he preceded her in death on December 28, 1988. Her parents and one sister, Barbara Johnston also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Lana C. Irwin of Springfield; two sons, Steven J. Irwin and Jarret K. (Fiance’ Dana LaMotte) Irwin both of Springfield; four grandchildren, Pola Thaeng-thong, Jennie “Sean” McCormick, Samantha Irwin and James Irwin; two great grandchildren, Braxton McCormick and Quintin Valenvuela; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Thompson and McKenna LaMotte; one step-great grandchild, Izabella Thompson; two brothers, Donald (Carolyn) Wright of Ohio and Michael Wright of South Carolina; several nieces, nephews and cousins and ex-daughter-in-law, Teri Irwin of Springfield.
Jennie was a member of First Christian Church in Mill Springs, Kentucky and Eagles Club Auxiliary. She enjoyed going to the Riverboat and Las Vegas.
She was a resident of Springfield for the past 55 years and was formerly of St. Albans, WV and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Thru the 60’s she was an Entertainer and Singer performing at Stevie’s Latin Village, the Lake Club and Southern Aire.
Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm, Monday, August 20, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Monday, August 20, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospice; the American Cancer Society or to the Disabled American Veterans.
