Jennie H. Brian
SPRINGFIELD – Jennie H. Brian, 92, of Springfield died at 3:46 p.m. on Tuesday, June, 15, 2010, at St. John’s Hospice after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on March 8, 1918, in Atwood, Illinois, the daughter of Frederick R. and Merle Applegate. She married Tony J. Brian on September 15, 1945, in Auburn, Illinois; he preceded her in death in June 2001.
A lifelong resident of Springfield, she retired from School District 186 as cafeteria manager of DuBois Grade School. She was devoted to her family and friends and was a diehard Notre Dame, Fighting Illini, Chicago Bears and Cubs fan as well as a loyal supporter of Griffin High School and SHG. Although legally blind, she never missed a radio broadcast of any area high school game or the Sam Madonia morning radio broadcast and was an avid listener of Books on Tape.
Mrs. Brian was a member of SS Peter and Paul and St. Agnes Churches.
In addition to losing her husband of 57 years, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald J. in 2008; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters; and a great-grandson.
She is survived by her son, Ron (wife, Gaye) of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Chris Brian of Springfield; three grandchildren, Jeff of St. Louis and Apryl and Tina, both of Springfield; 6 great-grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Marion of Divernon, Donte and Alexandria Rolfe of Chatham, Frank Krittrell and Kevon Stelivan, both of Springfield; sister, Gloria Baldwin of FL; sister-in-law, Jean Aherin of Divernon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held at Staab Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 20th. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes Church at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 21st. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospice or Sacred Heart Griffin High School.
