James Walter Switzer
James Walter Switzer, 73, of Sherman, died at 7:48 pm on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born on January 1, 1945 in Paris, IL to Walter Anzlie and Frances Marion (Henson) Switzer. He married Chiu Lan Kao on May 11, 1967 and she survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Frances Switzer of Paris, IL, three daughters; Marion (Mark) Nelson of Chicago, IL, Tracey Switzer (Jeremy Mizeur) and Kim (Dennis) O’Connell, both of Springfield, IL; four grandchildren, Mason Switzer of St. Louis, MO, Devon and Riley O’Connell of Springfield, IL, and Matt Nelson of Chicago, IL; one sister, Nancy Yarborough of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Daniel (Joanna) Switzer of Plainfield, IN, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
James was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served during the Vietnam War, later serving in the Illinois Air National Guard.
He worked as a personnel manager at the Illinois Department of Transportation for 35 years.
James enjoyed traveling, dancing, scuba diving, and spending time with his family, especially with his grandsons.
Memorial Gathering: 10 am – 12 pm, Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. John Vianney in Sherman.
Memorial Mass: 12 pm, Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. John Vianney with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating.
Burial will be held at a later date at Edgar Cemetery in Paris, IL.
