James W. Hillyer
James W. Hillyer, 86, of Springfield, died at 9:10 pm, Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born, July 28, 1929 in Camden, IL to Everett and Fairy Mae Meyers Hillyer. He married Margie M. Grafton on October 3, 1952 and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Charlotte Kim of Macau and Teena (Michael) Myers of Springfield; one son Stuart Hillyer of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Ashley Hillyer, Cassidy Hillyer, Dallas Craig, Matthew Kim, Nikki Rhoades, Kristin Tomei and Gavin Myers; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Estella Grace Kerr of Meredosia and Nureta Hester of Rushville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leon and Alvin Hillyer; three sisters, Alberta Moore, Delores Munkin and Irma Jean Hillyer.
James was a US Army Air Corp Veteran, serving from 1947 – 1956. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #755; American Legion; World Karting Association and National Rifle Association. James worked full time enlisted for the Illinois National Guard from 1956 until his retirement in 1985.
Visitation: 11am – 12pm, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Summers of Koke Mill Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
