James R. Grigsby
James R. Grigsby, 89, of Springfield, died at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born June 20, 1924 in Blandinsville, Illinois, to Rodmon and Florence Hodges Grigsby. He married Alberta Dumbris in June of 1984 and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (Chris) Eversole of Gainesville, Florida; one son, James A. (Alicia) Grigsby of Springfield; three stepsons, Alan (Linda) Dumbris of Berea, Kentucky; Don (Jennifer) Dumbris of Golconda, Illinois and Charles (Rose) Dumbris of Springfield; five grandchildren, Evan, Ryan, Aaron, Aimee and Laura; two great-granddaughters, Cadence and Macie; several step-grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Elizabeth Ann in January of 1983; one daughter, Donna Kay Hilliard; two sisters, Barb Beck and Luann Tanner.
James was a resident of Springfield most of his life. He retired from Burroughs where he worked for more than forty years as a Field Engineer.
He was a US Army Air Corps Veteran serving during WWII; was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School treasurer, as well many other positions within the church. He delivered for Meals on Wheels and for Daily Bread.
Visitation: 11:30 to 1:00 pm, Monday, March 3, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm, Monday, March 3, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Irwin officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.
