James Paul Mounce
James Paul Mounce, 85, of Springfield, died at 7:15 am, Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born March 8, 1929 in Springfield, to Allen and Josephine Reynolds Mounce. He married Shirlee Pflug on January 20, 1958 and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2011.
He is survived by three children, Paula (William) Peterson of Sherman; James Mounce of Springfield and Ruth Mounce of Springfield; five grandchildren, Phillip, Tricia, Lauren, Yvonne and Rachel; four great grandchildren, Ava, Aubrey, Charlie and Alessia; one sister, Rita Torrey of Pittsburg, PA; one brother, Thomas (Jennie) Mounce of Brooksville, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Allen “Jerry” and Joseph Mounce and one great nephew, Jesse Mounce.
James was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War as a member of the 322nd Engineering Company. He was a graduate of Cathedral Boy’s High School.
He worked for Pillsbury Mills for forty-two years as a forklift operator and was a member of Pillsbury 25 year club. He was an avid bowler; enjoyed cooking, sports and loved music. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
Visitation: 9-11 am, Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Frances Cabrini Church.
Funeral Mass: 11 am, Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Frances Cabrini Church with Reverend Richard Chiola officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the US Army will conduct military honors.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy for the wonderful care shown to their father for the past 2 ½ years.
