James "Jim" R. Henry
James ”Jim” R. Henry, 88, of Springfield, died at 2:35 am, Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born February 13, 1923 in Sherman, Illinois to William and Mabel McCallister Henry. He married Valia E. Eandi in 1950 and she preceded him in death on February 12, 1987. His parents; one brother, Billy Henry and two sisters Fannie Aiello and Jean Burmeister preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter Donna (Jeff) Todd of Bayport, MN; one son Jim W. (Dana) Henry of Springfield; three grandchildren Courtney (Partner Gayle) McCandless, Kendra (Joe) Conser and Devan (Tim) Barnard; five great grandchildren, Emma, Harper, Luke, Lincoln and Cole; two brothers-in-law, Andy Eandi of Rochester and Pete Eandi of Houston, Texas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving mainly in France, and he also served state side during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was an active member and sang in the choir for more than 60 years. He was a lifelong member of Blue Ridge Club and served many years as its President. He also served as a Union President for IAM. He was an avid Cub, Illini, Bulls and Bears fan and loved all sports. He was a golfer, carpenter and enjoyed gardening. He worked for Allis Chalmers, then Sangamo Electric for 28 years and retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Friday, April 8, 2011 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Lie in State: 12-1pm, Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 1 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Thomas Christell & Reverend Juli Lejman-Guy officiating.
Private Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date, where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
