James "Jim" Jenkins, Jr.
James “Jim” Jenkins, Jr. 95, of Quincy, formerly of Springfield, died at 8:40 am, Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born September 7, 1919 in Dawson, IL to James and Blanche Alkire Jenkins, Sr. She married Loretta Ilene Redding on June 29, 1944 and she preceded him in death on August 23, 2000.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah (Richard) Loman of Springfield; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Ivan) Tidwell and Muriel (Gordon) Bywater both of UT and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Theodore Jenkins; one sister Eula Ihnen and one brother Vernon Jenkins.
James was a US Army veteran serving during WWII. He was part of the first non- natives group to go into the Panama jungle for permanent positions as anti-aircraft/artillery spotters.
He worked as a painting/decorating contractor in southern California and Central Illinois. He also bartended and was a cook at the Lake Club.
Visitation: 11:30 am – 12:30 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Graveside Service: 12:30 pm, Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Roselawn Memorial Park, where Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
