James H. "Jim" Metz
James “Jim” H. Metz, 90, of Springfield, died at 1 pm, Monday, November 9, 2015 at Regency Nursing Care Residence. He was born May 1, 1925 in Springfield, to William and Ruth Wilson Metz. He married Irene Mayfield on May 9, 1953 and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah Metz of Cartersville, GA and Mary Elizabeth (Mark) Rasmussen of San Marcos, CA; five sons, William Metz of Springfield, Michael Metz of St. Louis, MO, Mark Metz of Springfield, Timothy Metz of Chicago and James Patrick (Stacy) Metz of Escondido, CA; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Louis Metz and Daniel Eggleston and two sisters, Sandy Eggleston and Rose Marie Hackwith.
Jim was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of St. Agnes Church and formerly belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
He worked for Sangamo Electric for twenty eight years and as a messenger for SIU School of Medicine for twelve years.
Private Services were held with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Burial followed at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail conducted military honors.
