James E. Lawson
James E. Lawson, 82, died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born October 29, 1932 in Springfield to Carl and Martha (Hutton) Lawson. He married Velma Wade on June 29, 1952, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters: Cindi Lawson of Springfield, Kathy (John) Levin of Sherman, and Nancy (John) Durham of Summerville, SC; nine grandchildren: Amanda (Mitch) Boston, Aaron Barbee, Allyssa Withrow, Abigail (Andrew) Nicol, Ben Levin, Leah Levin, Hannah Levin, Madeline Durham and Cameron Durham; one great grandchild, Jackson James Boston; one sister, Martha Jane Crawford of Buncombe, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn Meseke.
James lived in Springfield most of his life. He was a member of Historic Grace Lutheran Church. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He worked as a tool and die maker at Dickey John. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.
Visitation: 5 – 7 pm Monday, December 22, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 9 am Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas Christell officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
