James E. Knox
James E. Knox, Sr., 72, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at 1:19p.m. at St. John’s Hospice. He was born June 22, 1939 in Union City, Tennessee to Eugene and Rita Williams Knox. He married Patricia Clement on December 11, 1965.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Knox; two daughters, Cheryl Knox of Springfield and Cindy Crowder of Chatham; two sons, Karl (Karla) Knox of Pleasant Plains and James E. Knox, Jr. of Springfield; seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 2 step sisters; 2 sisters-in-law, Delores Knox and Francis Knox; one Aunt, Hazel Williams and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene T. Knox, Sr.; his mother and step-father Rita and Edward Hackwith; five brothers, Eddie, Alan, Eugene, Robert and Charles Knox; one grandson, Kyle Knox and one nephew Thomas Knox.
He was a United States Air force Veteran serving from 1958-1963. James was an member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, was an Elvis Impersonator and sang Elvis music at Karaoke, was an avid golfer and he loved spending time with his family and friends. James worked at the United States Postal Service as a clerk for 30 years and was a rental property owner for 32 years.
Visitation: 5p.m-7p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 11a.m. Friday January 6, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Schwarberg officiating.
Interment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
