James "Jake" D. Carlberg
James D. “Jake” Carlberg, 25, of Mt. Vernon, IN, died at 6:15 pm, Thursday, February 12, 2015 in Mt. Vernon, IN. He was born November 25, 1989 in Springfield, IL to James G. and Denise L. Hopper Carlberg. He married Glenna L. Jones on November 28, 2009 and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ian and Gavin Carlberg; parents, Denise and Greg Michael of Mt. Vernon, IN and James and Aleta Carlberg of Pleasant Plains; three brothers, Joseph Carlberg of Springfield, Kai Carlberg of Pleasant Plains and Nate Michael of Madisonville, KY; two sisters, Maddie Poshard and Katie Stoppelwerth both of Mt. Vernon, IN; grandmother, Linda Carlberg of Roseville, IL and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dennis and Frances Hopper and grandpa, James Carlberg.
Jake was a US Army Veteran and was a member of Sweetwater Christian Church. He enjoyed soccer, video gaming and spending time with friends and family. He was a dog handler and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Roxy.
He worked as a security guard and firefighter for ABM Security and attended the University of Southern Indiana.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am Friday, February 20, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Roger James officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Inter Veterans Burial Detail will conduct Military Honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jake Carlberg Family Fund in care of INB or to Fifth Third Bank in Mt. Vernon, IN, in Benefit of James “Jake” Carlberg.
