J. Pat Landess
James Patrick “Pat” Landess, 67, of Springfield passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at his home. He was born on October 29, 1952 in Pittsfield, IL to Stuart and Crystal (Carroll) Landess. He married Deborah (Debbie) Schleyhahn on July 11, 2003.
Pat is survived by his wife Debbie; three daughters, Danielle Landess of Kentucky, Michelle Landess of Riverton and Patricia Landess of Springfield; two step-sons, Eric (Megan) Leichsenring and Scot Leichsenring, both of Springfield; 15 grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, Justin, Paige, Skyler, Shauna, Nick, Brady, Chacie, Giovanni, Adalie, Greyson, Jaydaa, Alaina and Beau; one sister, Theresa Sidwell of Pittsfield; three brothers, Mike (Vickie) Landess of Springfield, Dan (Paula) Landess of Lincoln and Kevin (Peggy) Landess of Indiana and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents and a brother (Gregory “Greg” Landess)
Pat was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany.
He worked his entire 35-year career as a master sheet metal worker for both Smart Local Union 36 in St. Louis, MO and Local Union 218 in Springfield and Decatur.
Pat was loved and respected by his family and friends for his kindness, compassion, strength, humor, and many talents. Pat was a gifted musician known for his remarkable drumming and depth of knowledge of rock n’ roll.
In retirement, Pat focused his skill with sheet metal to create beautiful artwork. He donated many pieces to be auctioned at charity events. And made many pieces for his friends and family.
Pat loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed sudoku & crossword puzzles, birds, gardening, mushrooming, and long walks with his grandchildren and beloved dog in Carpenter’s Park.
Above all else, Pat was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed dearly.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of his life will be held later.
Memorials in honor of Pat may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
