SPRINGFIELD – Irene Saccomano, 83, of Springfield went to heaven on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born in Athens, Illinois, on April 14, 1926, the daughter of John and Pearl Forden, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her family, Joyce (Tim) Carmody of Springfield, Ronald (Bonnie Duncan) Cauthen of Springfield, Dominick (Jill) Saccomano; and several special grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Irene was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong Democrat and committeewoman. She also was a beautician at Rolands Beauty Shop and retired as a security guard from the Secretary of State in 1991.
A member and active member of Teamsters Local 916, Polka Lovers Club of America, VFW, American Legion and DAV Auxiliary, Eagles Club and AARP.
In accordance with her wishes, her body is being donated to SIU Medical School for educational and research purposes.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 220 S. Second Street. The memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Dr. Thomas Radtke presiding. Burial will be at Hall Cemetery in Athens at a later date.
