SHERMAN, TX – Irene Mason, 101, of Sherman, TX, formerly of Springfield, died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at The Homestead in Sherman, TX.
She was born January 9, 1906 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Herman and Pauline Pfaeffle Kother. She married Albert Mason in 1927; he preceded her in death. Her parents; three daughters, Norma Winch, Delores Banks, and Margaret Zimmer; four sisters; and three brothers, also preceded him in death.
Mrs. Mason was associated with Mason’s Grocery and was previously employed by the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Springfield Art Association, Springfield Ceramic and Crafts Club, The Women’s Club of Springfield, Illinois Homemaker’s Extension Association-Jerome Unit, Brinkerhoff Home, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Garden Foundation, and the Illinois State Museum Society. She moved to Texas in 2005 and resided with her granddaughter, Sherry (Mrs. Tom) Wilthers until moving to The Homestead.
Survivors: five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2007. Remains will lie in state at 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Reverend Paul Olson officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
