Irene M. Davenport, 91 of Springfield, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013, at St. Johns Hospital. Irene was born September 25, 1921, in Toluca, IL, the daughter of Louis and Johanna Imm.
Irene attended ISNU and Brown’s Business College in Peoria, IL. Later moving to Springfield, IL she worked as secretary to the Director of Public Health, and later to the Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Later in life she worked for the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and was made an Honorary Member. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Byron Orville, her parents, two sisters, Esther Hemenway and Hertha Imm, three brothers, Germanus “Monte” Imm, Raymond Imm and Lester Imm.
Surviving Irene are four sons; Leslie (Connie) of Clayton, IL, Louis (Diane) of Secor, IL, Douglas (Susan) of Secor, IL, and Gary (Susan) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and two daughters; Donna Meyer (David) of Springfield and Gina Davis (Jim) of Auburn, IL; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Gathering: 12:00 pm – 2 pm, Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2645 Old Jacksonville Road.
Memorial Service: 2 pm, Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2645 Old Jacksonville Road, with Reverend Daniel Eggold officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
