Hugh F. "Mac" McCue

May 25, 1943 - May 1, 2014

Hugh F. “Mac” McCue, 70, of Spaulding formerly of Elkhart, died at 4:45 am, Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1943 in Buffalo, NY, to John F. and Kathryn E. Cox McCue, Jr. He married Florence M. Hurley and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Bridget (Jeffery) Curl of Forrest, IL; four sons, John (Noel) McCue of Lincoln, NE, Chad (Anita) McCue of Lexington, IL, Mark (Allison) McCue of Springfield and Patrick (Stacy) McCue of Williamsville; fourteen grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Cheryl) McCue of Mt Pulaski and Charles (Val) McCue of Springfield; one aunt, Alice Winterbauer of Petersburg and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Theresa McCue in 1980 and two sisters, Margaret McCue and Marietta Romer.

Mac was a US Marine Corps Veteran serving during Vietnam. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan; a Bulls fan; enjoyed hunting for deer and small game and was an avid golfer. He was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. James Church in Riverton. He worked for IBEW Local 193.

Visitation: 4-7 pm, Sunday, May 4, 2014 at St. James Church in Riverton. A prayer service will be held at 3:45 pm Sunday.

Lie-in-State: 8:30-9:30 am, Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. James Church in Riverton.

Funeral Mass: 9:30 am, Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. James Church in Riverton with Reverend Raphael Paul DeMoreno officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted.

Flo & the entire McCue family, we offer our utmost sympathy on Mac's passing. He will certainly be missed by so many. Mac was unquestionably one-of-a-kind. He was one of the most devout persons we've ever known. He offered up life's hardships & trials to God. And his Irish eyes always smiled. We hope many others will follow his example. May God rest his soul in everlasting Peace. Amen.

Flo and family, may the good lord look after you in your time of sorrow. We will always remember Mac with that boyish smile on his face and that sense of humor. We were not only neighbors at one time, but I also had the pleasure of working with Mac on a couple of occasions. He was a pleasure to be around on and off of the job. He is now in the Lord's hands and will be watched over.

To the entire McCue family....we want to express our love and guidance for you as you lay this most amazing man to rest. We continue to keep you in our prayers and that the memories keep you smiling, that his warmth of nature keeps you comforted and that his legacy keeps you in constant good stead. Mac was truly one of a kind and we are all the better for his time here on earth. May his love continue to surround you as you seek comfort and peace at this most difficult time. Mrs. Flo, you are a woman of great moxie and as much as you don't want credit, you were the most selfless woman who deeply committed herself to the man and the marriage. God Bless you. I will surely miss Mac's answer whenever I asked him, " How is Mrs. Flo?" and he would say, " She's still as cute as ever." We love you dearly.

Flo, our hearts are heavy with sadness at Mac's passing. We have many happy memories of all the joy that came from your place up the hill from us in Spaulding when the kids were growing up in the '70s. Pray that the Lord wraps all of you in comfort during this time of sorrow
