Hubert Joseph Iocca
Hubert J. Iocca, 85, of Springfield died at 3:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2011 at his residence. He was born October 13, 1925 in Springfield, IL.
Hubert was preceded in death by his father James Iocca, a niece: Cathy Iocca Stephenson; two brothers-in-law: Earl Kern and William Lehman; sister-in-law: Marie Iocca and two nephews: Donald and David Iocca.
He married Dorothy L. Burg on November 4, 1950 and she survives.
Also surviving are two brothers: James Iocca of Jackson, MI and Donald (Bettye) Iocca of Davis, CA; two sisters-in-law: Theresa Kern and Barbara Lehman both of Springfield; one brother-in-law: Carl (Rosie) Burg of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Hubert was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and Knights of Columbus Council 364. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was an excellent craftsman and loved gardening and golf.
He was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1944. After serving his country he owned and operated Iocca Builders.
Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 am Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Church with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating.
Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
Memorials may be given to St. John’s Hospice.
