Hubert "Hubie" Calvin Smith
Hubert “Hubie” Calvin Smith, 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. He was born on March 31, 1937, in Lincoln, IL, to Charles E. and Carrie B. Smith.
His parents preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Shehorn, and grandson, Tyler Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo; two children: David M. Smith (Deanne), and Carrie Lynn Taylor (Dave); one brother, Charles E. Smith (Elaine); four grandchildren: Jason L. Smith (Starr), Christopher Smith (Kayla), Stephanie Wilson (Dustin), Cole Taylor; and five great-grandchildren: Dena, Faith, Kennedie, Emma Lee, and Dustin.
He graduated from Lincoln Community High School. He married Betty Jo Wheeler in 1957. He spent two years in the United States Navy on the USS Allagash. He then apprenticed at the Lincoln Courier for typesetting. He worked for The State Journal-Register for 34 years in the composing room and was president of The Springfield Typographical Union. He was a member of the Elks and Navy Club. He loved spending time with his family and friends, fishing and traveling with his wife.
Services are being held at Staab Funeral Home, Springfield. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League of Springfield or Simmons Cancer Institute of Springfield, IL.

I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the Smith family. May those precious memories of your dear loved one Hubert be foremost in your hearts and minds along with this wonderful promise that Jesus made at John 5:28,29. Again, my sincere condolences.
