Horace J. "Jack" Freeman
Horace J. “Jack” Freeman, of Springfield, 89, died at 12:57 am, Saturday, August 16, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice, surrounded by his family. He was born April 16, 1925 in Dawson, IL to George and Fallis Garlits Freeman. He married Frances L. Thoele on April 17, 1948, and she preceded him in death on June 14, 2005.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Clell Freeman; sister, Judith Hulett, and sister-in-law, Nancy Freeman.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Gregory) Sparks of Pleasant Plains; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Sparks and Amanda Sparks; two sisters, Georgia Hollenbeck and Connie Peavy; two brothers, Roger (Diane) Freeman and Curtman Freeman; sister-in-law, Phyllis Freeman; brother-in-law, Harold Hulett and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was a resident of Springfield most of his life and member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and was a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as a supervisor.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with prayer service at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at St. Frances Cabrini Church with Reverend Richard Chiola officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler Cemetery.

I was so sorry to hear of Jack's death. I sat behind him every Sunday morning at 9:30 mass at St. Cabrini Church. He always greeted me with a smile and a wink. He will be greatly missed.
