SHERMAN – Helen M. Freeman, 90, of Sherman, died Friday, June 29, 2007 at Villa East Healthcare in Sherman, IL.

She was born March 26, 1917 in Cantrall, IL, the daughter of Daniel A. and Katherine McIntyre Metz. She married Calvin W. Freeman in 1940; he preceded her in death on March 18, 1992. Her parents; one infant son; two sisters, Joanne Metz and Eileen Lach; and two brothers, Larry and Danny Metz, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Freeman was a medical secretary for St. John’s TB Sanitarium for 28 years. She also worked for the State of Illinois for 21 years as a legal secretary to the Chairman of the Board Members of the State Property Tax Appeal Board, retiring in 1989. She was a graduate of Athens High School, a member of St. Aloysius Church, and a former member of St. James Church in Riverton. She also was a Lay Associate of the 3rd Order of St. Francis-Hospital Sisters and a member of Legion of Mary and Blue Ridge Club.

Survivors: two sisters, Mary Louise Woloshyn of Sherman and Betty Lou Hughes of Springfield; one brother, James R. (wife, Lucille) Metz of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius Church or St. James Church in Riverton.

Visitation will be held 9:00-10:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2007 at St. Aloysius Church. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2007 at St. Aloysius Church, Reverend Mark Schulte and Reverend Donald Meehling officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
