Helen Kathryn Schmitz

On Sunday, June 2, 2013, Helen Kathryn Schmitz (Nee: Nation) fondly known by all as “Grammy” joined her husband Leonard Frank Schmitz who had preceded her in death on February 14, 1977. She was born in Petersburg, IL on July 27, 1915.

She lived in Springfield for her entire adult life and was a charter member of Little Flower Church.

She had six children, Pat Creviston ( James R), Springfield; Joe Schmitz (Shin Hwa), Darien, IL; Michael Schmitz Sr. (Marcia), Springfield, IL; Mary A. Rolando, Springfield, IL; Suzanne M. Harper, Hamlin, NY; and Ralph M. Schmitz who preceded her in death (Annamarie), Gahanna, OH. She also had 29 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 33 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Tierra Bregenhorn, Springfield, IL and Michael Schmitz III, Palm Springs, CA.

Visitation at Staab Funeral Home will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, with a prayer service at 4pm.

A celebration of her life Mass will be held at Little Flower Church at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 6, 2013 with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
