Helen E. Odorizzi
Helen E. Odorizzi, 81, of Springfield, died at 11:55 pm, Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard. She was born September 22, 1933 in Springfield, to George E. and Lillie L. Thomas Watkins, Sr. She married William H. “Bill” Skaggs, Sr. in 1957 and he preceded her in death in 1963. She married Bruno Odorizzi on February 27, 1982 and he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (Rev. Steve) Smith of Springfield; one son, William H. “Bill” Skaggs, Jr. of East St. Louis; three grandchildren, Ariel, Johnny and Micah Smith; three half-sisters, Lois (Rod) Hare, Dorothy (John) Negangard and Carla Watkins; step sister, Karen (Marc) LeCount; step-brother, Melvin (Doris) Woods; sister-in-law, Ida Watkins and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; one brother, George E. “Buster” Watkins, Jr.; two sisters, Clara Lomprez and Wanda Rogers and twin infant brother and sister, Billie and Bonnie Watkins.
Helen was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Zephyr Class. She enjoyed playing BINGO, working crossword puzzles, music and baking, especially pumpkin bread. She was a homemaker and had formerly worked for Illinois EPA and was a car hop at the Icy Root Beer Stand and Goody Goody Drive in.
Visitation: 9-11 am, Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Julia Melgreen and Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
