Harold Richard Sturm, Jr.
Harold Richard Sturm, Jr., 84, of Springfield, died at 4:14 am, Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born April 17, 1934 to Harold Richard and Nellie Mae (Taylor) Sturm Sr. He married Marilyn Jean Malensky on April 25, 1959 and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Harold Laurence “Larry” (Denise) Sturm, William Edward “Bill” (Rhonda) Sturm and Richard Wayne “Rick” Sturm; two grandchildren, Brittney Lee (Matt) Hudacek and Amy Katharine (Jared) Rickord; great granddaughter, Ariana Lee Hudacek; one sister, Shirley Hayden and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, William and Eliza (Booth) Sturm and William L. and Mary (Diefenback) Taylor and one sister, Norma Crowe.
Harold attended Enos Grade School and graduated from Trinity Lutheran Grade School in 1948. He was a graduate of Lanphier High School in 1952 and served in the US Army from 1953-1955 in the 2nd Armored Division-3rd AFA Battery, HQ Battery as a Corporal.
He retired from CILCO after 34 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Anchor Boat Club, VFW #755 and AmVets in Springfield and the American Legion Post #263 in Lincoln.
Gathering: The family will host a gathering from 3-7 pm, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Rick’s Home, 18 Apache, Springfield, IL.
Visitation: 8:30-9:30 am, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 220 South 2nd St., Springfield, IL.
Funeral Service: 9:30 am, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Paul Hemenway and Reverend Dr. Thomas Radtke officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
The family is requesting casual attire.
