Glen L. Hurley
SPRINGFIELD – Glen L. Hurley Sr., 78, of Springfield, died at 9:15 pm, Sunday, February 7, 2010 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born June 9, 1931 in Bluffs, Illinois the son of Carl and Lucille Gumm Hurley. He married Mary L. Summers on November 18, 1948 and she survives him. He is also survived by 3 daughters, Janice Hurley of Auburn and Betty Caswell and Rhonda (Frank) Krakosky, both of Springfield; 6 sons Gerald (companion, Joni Wendling), Glen Jr., Richard (Cindy) and Gary (Kendra) Hurley, all of Springfield, Robert (Pam) Hurley of Jacksonville, IL and Terry (Jackie) Hurley of Ft. Myers, Florida; 32 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Katherine Lovall and 3 brothers, Carl, James and Walter. Mr. Hurley was a resident of the Springfield area for over 50 years. He owned and operated Bergen Park Motors for 20 years and managed Huber Pontiac for 5 years. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Eagles 437, Colorado Country Music Foundation and Hall of Fame. Was a past member of Country Music Association in Nashville, Ohio country Music Foundation and Illinois Country Music Hall of Fame. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm, Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 am, Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Kathy Swaar, CLP officiating. Burial will be in West Cemetery, Thayer. Mr. Hurley had requested that memorial donations be made to his beloved wife or St. John’s Hospice.
