Geraldine F. Clifford
Geraldine “Jerry” F. Clifford, passed away at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born October 28, 1914 in Springfield, to John and Susie Marsh. She married Thomas J. Clifford on May 31, 1941 at St. Marks Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1979.
Jerry was a graduate of Springfield High School and worked as a secretary in the Secretary of State’s Office for eleven years, interrupting some of those years to be with her husband, who was in officer’s training school in Cheyenne, Wyoming during WWII. She ceased working in the mid 1940’s to be a homemaker and mother.
Jerry was always very social; she loved people and didn’t know a stranger. She loved to travel and belonged to many clubs and organizations including St. Agnes Church, St. Louise de Marillac Guild, Samaritans of St. John’s Hospital, Illinois State Museum Society, Art Association of Springfield, Altar and Rosary Society, Kings Daughter’s Circle and her favorite “Stich and Bitch” Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Donna Cangemi and two sons-law, Thomas A Joyce and Dr. Edward G. Ference
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Joyce-Ference of Springfield and one grandchild Marney K. (Timothy) Joyce-Brennan of Ashville, NC. She is also survived by one first cousin, Henry (Bertha) Eaves and their daughter, Sandra (Rick) Mollahan and their two children, Brynna and Eric.
A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
