Gerald R. "Jerry" Dye
Gerald “Jerry” R. Dye, 94, of Springfield died at 9:50 am, Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his home. He was born September 18, 1927 in Chicago, to James Russell and Clara M. (Orth) Dye. He married Betty J. Steinhauser on May 5, 1951 and she preceded him in death on February 17, 1997.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Ronald and Richard Dye, and one brother, John “Jack” Russell Dye.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Susan) Dye and William “Bill” (Tina) Dye, both of Springfield; daughter-in- law, Victoria “Vickie” Dye (Ron) of Springfield; one brother, Thomas Dye of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Todd (Valerie) Dye of Fort Myers Beach, FL, Jennifer (Chad) Lutter of Mundelein, Stephanie (Andrew) Blackwell and Matthew (Meredith) Dye both of Springfield, and six great grandchildren, Jordan and Fiona Dye, Charlie and George Lutter and Charlotte and Liam Blackwell.
Jerry was a member of Christ the King Church. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII.
He was a Union Carpenter for over 70 years and worked for St. John’s Hospital in maintenance carpentry. He was a member of The Elks Club Lodge 158 and Carpenters Local 16.
He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Chicago Cubs and Bears and the Fighting Illini. He loved walking and attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Visitation: 9-10 AM, Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home- Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Chris House officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
