George Ray Dippel
SPRINGFIELD – George Ray Dippel, 71, of Springfield died at 12:12 a.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 4, 1937, in Old Berlin, the son of George F. and Erma Jones Dippel. He married Patricia K. Calandrino on Dec. 7, 1968.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Helen Gay, Marge Fawns, Dorothy Klauzer Lee, Faye Sidner, Betty Meece and Shirley Fawns; a brother, Harold Tex Dippel; and a brother-in-law, Stan Thompson.
Mr. Dippel was a machinist at Bunn-O-Matic Corporation for 19 years, retiring in 2002.
He was a member of Church of the Little Flower. He played lead guitar from 1954 until the late 1980s in the Harmony Brothers Band. He was a diehard Cubs fan and liked to spend time with his children and grandchildren and his faithful Scottish Terrier Murphy.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Dippel; daughter, Cherie L. (husband, Todd) Starkweather of Springfield; son, Anthony Ray Tony (wife, Carrie Clark) Dippel of Springfield; three grandchildren, Amanda K. Starkweather, Blake Anthony Dippel and Madison Elizabeth Dippel; two brothers, Don (wife, Alice) Dippel and Bill Dippel, both of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins; four sisters-in-law, Gina (husband, Mike) Dickerson, Vicki (John) Kremitzki, Cathy Christison and Pam Thompson, all of Springfield; a brother-in-law, Joe Calandrino of Springfield; and father and mother-in-law, Sam and Mary Calandrino of Springfield.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held there at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dippel family to assist them in their contribution to the Jerome Park Foundation in memory of Ray Dippel.
