George Perko, 97, of Springfield, died at 2:16 pm, Sunday, November 1, 2015, at St. John’s Hospital. He was born February 22, 1918 in Springfield, to Joseph and Thekla Schallager Perko. He married Monica Mayfield in 1946, they later divorced and she preceded him in death in 2000.
Survivors include one son, George W. (Sharon) Perko of Springfield; one step-daughter, Pamela (Leon) House of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, Wes, Josh (Mandi), Jeff and Jenni Perko and Jim, David, Tom, Eric, Jon, Anne and Alisha House; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse and four brothers, Joe, John, Lawrence and Raymond Perko.
George was a US Army veteran serving during WWII. He retired as a laborer / construction worker for Union Local #477. He previously had worked as a baker for Local #177 and B & Z Bakery.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Church.
Visitation: 9-10 am, Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Honkomp officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
