George L. Marcy
PETERSBURG – George L. Marcy Sr., 89, of Petersburg, formerly of Springfield, died at 1:27 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Menard Convalescent Center.
He was born April 24, 1920, in Springfield, the son of Arthur and Mary Marcy. He married Dorothy A. Clotfelter on May 10, 1942; she preceded him in death on June 5, 2002.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; infant twin son and daughter, Sharron and Michael; a great-grandchild, Morgan; brother, Arthur Marcy; and two stepbrothers, Robert and Lloyd Dollet.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Marcy of Springfield and Karen (companion, Dennis Julius) Marcy of Curran; five sons, George Larry L. (Linda) Marcy Jr. of Springfield, Phil (Maureen) Marcy of Havana, Jim (Bonnie) Marcy of Springfield, Steve (Debbie) Marcy of Petersburg, and Bill (Pamela Sue) Marcy of Petersburg; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eloise Williams of Springfield; a brother: Donald (Betty) Marcy of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
George worked at CWLP as a trouble shooter.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Church. He was a member of the VFW, loved golfing, bowling, fishing, and music, especially big band style. He was a member of the United States Air Force serving during World War II and he also served in the Illinois National Air Guard. He was an avid Cub fan.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and Illinois National Guard.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer`s Association.
