Fredrick Charles Lyman
Fredrick Charles Fred Lyman Jr. of Springfield died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.
Fred was born January 16, 1936, the son of Fredrick C. and Margaret Naab Lyman, Sr. He married Martha C. Rummenie on February 7, 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Steven C. Lyman.
He is survived by his wife, Martha C. Marty Lyman; one daughter, Teresa M. Franklin of Chatham; two sons, Michael A. Lyman of San Diego, CA and Kirk A. (wife Brenda) Lyman of Bloomingdale; five grandchildren, Jeff, Nick, Lexy, Hannah, and Keith; one sister, Betty Burg of Ocala, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Fredrick was a member of Christ the King Church. He retired as a full colonel from the IL Army National Guard. He worked with Soil and Water Conservation Service for the State of Illinois retiring in 1991 with over 35 years of service. Fred enjoyed playing golf and he spent his younger years coaching many different baseball leagues. He was an avid Cardinals, Illini and Notre Dame fan. He attended Quincy High School and Valparaiso.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Christ the King Church, with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Illinois Air National Guard and the Macon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Research or the American Diabetes Association.
