Frank W. Cooke
SPRINGFIELD – Frank W. Cooke Sr., 81, of Springfield died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Capitol Care Center.
He was born April 21, 1927, in Springfield, the son of Harold Oliver and Rachel Marie Smith Cooke. He married Bess H. Phillips on Aug. 1, 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold, Gerald and Charlie; and two sisters, Delores and Rachel.
Mr. Cooke worked in construction and retired as a custodian for District 186. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II and Korea. He was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are his wife, Bess Cooke of Springfield; two sons, Frank W. Cooke Jr. of Springfield and Steven L. (wife, Cathy) Cooke of San Diego; four grandchildren, Angela, Rachel, Steven and Krysta; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Sarver, Olive Williams and Elizabeth (husband, Jim) Hamrick, all of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Waltrip officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy.
