Frank Samuel Romano
Frank Samuel Romano, 98, a long time Springfield resident, died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Luxury Adult Family Home in Federal Way, WA. He was born February 3, 1916 in Alton to Salvatore and Anna Terranova Romano. Frank married Cecelia Vallar on June 20, 1942. His wife, parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters Rose Ann (John) McRoberts of Edgewood, WA and Cecelia Renee Romano (Robert Sherwood) of Champaign, IL; one son John Francis Romano (Lori J. Schisler) of Springfield; four grandchildren John Michael, Shawn and Kim McRoberts and Angela Sherwood; four great grandchildren; one brother Anthony J. Romano of Alton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Frank was a shop instructor of St. James Trade School for 29 years, he also worked for the State of Illinois as a meat inspector for 11 years. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 – 1946. He was a member of St. Cabrini Church, American Legion 32 and a life member of VFW Post 10302. Frank was a member of the Springfield Municipal Band for 45 years and the American Federation of Musicians #798. He was in the Charles Rogers Orchestra and founding member of Frank Mort Jazz Combo.
Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at St. Cabrini Church with Reverend Joseph Ring officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
