Francis J. Gutmann
SPRINGFIELD – Francis J. (Jerry) Gutmann, 64, of Springfield, IL died at 2:02 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born March 4, 1945, in Springfield to Joseph Lee and Irene Florence Robinson Gutmann.
His parents and one brother, Chuck, preceded him in death.
Jerry married his wife, Diane Kay Gordan, on July 8, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; his previous wife, Anna Marie Floyd; two daughters, Olive (Larry) Smith and Amanda (Jeremy) Fox, both of Springfield; two sons, Michael L. Tanner of Riverton and Scott Gutmann of Roby, IL; and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Ann (Gerald) Luecht of Springfield, Nancy (companion, Richard Williams) Gutmann of Edinburg, Marylou (Tony) Montalbano of Jacksonville, FL and Carol Gutmann; three brothers, Donald Gutmann of Oregon state, John (Gladys) Gutmann of Orlando, FL and Jim (Lois) Gutmann of Wood River, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed cooking, especially his famous spaghetti, green beans and peach cobbler. He worked for Brickfair as a maintenance manager at several buildings in Springfield. He graduated from Springfield High School and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during Vietnam.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11-1 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
