Frances June Pool
SPRINGFIELD, IL – Frances June Pool, 82, died at 9:15 am, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Home. She was born June 16, 1932 in Chicago, the daughter of, Frank S. and Karen Peterson Friddle. She married Gene Pool in 1953.
A graduate from Hyde Park High School in Chicago, she earned her bachelor’s degree at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Later, she received a master’s degree at the University of Illinois in
The Chicago Public Library system employed her as a library clerk at Kelly and Woodlawn branches and the Thomas Hughes room.
She became a library assistant at Reddick’s Library in Ottawa, IL.
Her teaching career began at Dayton (IL) Elementary School, continuing at Pawnee Unit 4 School and later at Springfield’s Edison Middle School and Lanphier High School, retiring in 1987.
She was a life member of the U of I Alumni Association and of the National Education Association and the Illinois Education Association and Illinois Retired Teachers Association and a member of the American Sewing Guild and AFSCME.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Pool of Springfield; one son Jeffrey William (Donna) Pool of Redondo Beach, CA and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Margaret Davis, Violet Walbridge and Olive Adams.
She was a resident of the St. Joseph Home Holy Family Center.
