Fr. Cal (Norbert) Giesen, ofm 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2012 in Sherman, IL. Fr. Cal was born on December 3, 1921 in Union Hill, MN. He was the son of the late, Mathias Giesen and Barbara (Klinkhammer) Giesen. He was preceded in death by brothers, Reinold, Clarence, Ermin, William, Melvin, Gerald , Leo and sisters, Leona and Lorraine Giesen Knaeble. He is survived by brothers, Raymond Giesen New Prague, MN Francis (Harriet) Giesen, Marshal, MI and sisters Marian (Sam) Svoboda, Bloomington, MN, Leona Weiers, New Prague, MN, Bernice Hauer, St. Paul MN, Sister-in-Laws Clara Giesen and Ludy Giesen, New Prague, MN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Fr. Cal was a member of the Franciscan Province of the Sacred Heart for 71 years and a priest for 65 years. Fr. Cal served the Church and Franciscan community as a teacher, vocation director, campus minister, and parochial minister. He had once served at Sacred Heart Church St. Paul, MN.
Fr. Cal was dedicated to his community, to the Church, his family and especially to his God. He was a faithful and loving servant who touched many lives with his gentle smile and warm embrace. May Fr. Cal now receive the same gentle smile and warm embrace from the Lord he loved and served so well.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church New Prague, MN. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment: St. John Cemetery, Union Hill, MN
