Everett J. "Jarrie" Turner
Everett J. Turner, 84, of Rochester, died at 8:10am Friday, July 10, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born March 19, 1931 in Waverly to Everett T. and Ruth Jarrett Turner. He married Margaret Louise “Maggie” Archer at the Makalapa Chapel in Honolulu, HI on March 5, 1952. They were married for 63 years. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane (Bruce) King of Modesto, CA, Sally (Jim) Craven of Springfield, and Cherie (Don) Repp of Springfield; one son, Gary (Kathy) Turner of Broomfield, CO; 11 grandchildren, Ben (Jill) Brown, Nathan (Esther) Turner, Brett Peak, Holly (Jeremy) Kotner, Joshua (Gretchen) Craven, Caleb Turner, Erin (Jordan) Dorsey, Matthew Craven, Alaina Turner, Lindsay Brown, and Nicole Craven; 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; he had one sister, Imogene Okes.
Jarrie was employed by Illinois Bell as an electronics electrician for 35 years until retiring in 1985.
Jarrie served as the Mayor of Rochester in the 1970s, also served as water commissioner, and served on the village board for 10 years. He was the past Exalted Ruler of Elk’s Lodge #158 in 1985 and was the past Master of the Rochester Masonic Lodge #635. Everett was a member of the VFW Post 158, American Legion Post 32, the Ansar Shrine Legion of Honor and Consistory. He loved crossword puzzles, golfing, and shuffleboard.
He was a United States Navy Veteran. Serving in the Korean War from 1950-1953.
Visitation: 4-7pm Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:30am Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor David Upchurch and Pastor Ben Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Illinois Elk’s Children’s Care Corporation.
