Evelyn T. Evy Knox
Evelyn T. Evy Knox, of Springfield, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born May 10, 1928 in Alto Pass, IL the daughter of Floyd Trexler and Ida Mae Brown Trexler. While married to Paul Knox she had five children. She is survived by her sons John Pat (Nancy) Knox of Fountain Hill, AZ, Tommy (Tracy) Knox of Springfield, and Timmy Knox of Florida, devoted daughters Suella Tinsley and Marcia Kay (companion: Bill Mitchell) Knox both of Springfield. Also surviving are 16 beloved grandchildren and three precious great-grandchildren, a brother Edgar (Roberta) Trexler of Alto Pass, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Johnny Trexler and Jack Trexler and a sister: Dorothy Draper.
She was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Evy was a dynamo, actively involved in local politics for many years, serving as a Demoncrat precinct committeeman in Precinct 81 and advisor to several politicians, most of whom were successful. She loved working in her yard, garage sales, playing cards and helping others. Her love of family and legacy of service was reproduced in her children and grandchildren. She will greatly miss her weekly Train games with her posse in Southern View. She was employed by the Springfield Police Department in the Detective Bureau and also worked for the Secretary of State at the Driver’s License Facility.
Services: Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2011 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial: 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Alto Pass Cemetery
Visitation: 1-3 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
