Ernest Stone, 95, of Springfield, died at 6:05 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on August 13, 1923 to William and Augusta Sablotny Stone and they preceded him in death. He married Thelma Heflin on March 9, 1944 and she, too, preceded him in death on April 13, 2016.
Also preceding him in death are his daughter, Penny Stone Fleck; four brothers, and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia (Russ) Bechtold of Mt. Prospect, and Linda (Gary) Woodson of Springfield; one son, Ernest Stone of Springfield, eight grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ernest was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He retired from Allis Chalmers/ Fiat Allis as an electrician after 40 years of service. He had also belonged to the Rescue Squad for eight years.
Ernest enjoyed gardening and was considered to be a handy-man; he built his own house. He enjoyed other activities including, polka, senior trips, and studying about nature.
Visitation: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 12 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Bob Green officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
