Ernest Lee Duncan
Ernest Lee Duncan, Sr., formerly of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2010, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he resided with his family. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010, with the visitation at 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at to 2:00 p.m., at Healing Streams Word & Worship Center, 4751 Century Plaza Road, Indianapolis, Indiana.
A Memorial Service will be held for Ernest on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 1730 West Jefferson Street, Springfield, Illinois, with visitation there at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Oakridge Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Calvary Temple Scholarship Fund, c/o Calvary Temple Christian Center, 1730 West Jefferson Street, Springfield, IL 62702, or The Hope Institute for Children and Families, 15 East Hazel Dell Lane, Springfield, IL 62712.
Ernest was the eldest of three siblings born November 22, 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri to Sallie and Nathaniel Duncan.
Ernest enjoyed a full life, having been a graduate of Crane Technical High School in Chicago, receiving a Bachelor of Arts, Social Justice Professions, Sangamon State University, and studying business administration at Roosevelt University and Northwestern University. He entered the United States Army as a medic in June of 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and by his wife, Barbara, in 1985 and later Betty, in 2008. He was employed by the Department of Labor for two years prior to joining the staff of the Illinois State Youth Commission in 1964. He was promoted to Chief Internal Auditor of the IL State Dept. of Corrections in 1971; and retired December 1988 as Supervisor of Administration of the Illinois Dept. of Corrections. He was a member of the National Institute of Internal Auditors and director of the Morgan Park Savings and Loan Association for many years.
While residing in Chicago for many years, with his wife and family, he attended Morgan Park Assembly Church, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees, Deacon, and Sunday School Superintendant. Upon moving his family to Springfield, Illinois, they attended the 1st United Pentecostal Church, and Calvary Temple, both in Springfield, IL.
He is survived by three sons, Ernest L. Duncan Jr. (Retha), Mason, OH, Brian K. Duncan, Chicago, IL and Stephen A. Duncan, Cincinnati, OH. Four grandchildren, Ernest L. Duncan III, Springfield, OH, Jeremy A. Duncan Sr. (Michelle), Cincinnati, OH, Elisha J. Milner, Cincinnati, OH, Erin J. Milner, Dekalb, IL. Four great grandchildren, Jeremy A. Duncan Jr., Jayden R. Priddy, Jordan C. Duncan, and Aniyah G. Spaulding all of Cincinnati, OH.
